    by  • November 27, 2015 • Craze, Heroes, Styling • 0 Comments

Opening-picWe invited seven of our fabulous readers to take part in our annual Christmas Tree Challenge. Their task? To decorate a tree in their favourite festive look from the high street. From frosty whites to glitzy golds and jolly novelty to rustic woodland, all the looks were proudly showcased in our December issue. Don’t worry if you missed it, because we’ve got them all here for you to see. We’d love to hear your favourites so do get in touch with us on Facebook!

Rustic RetreatDanni styled this fabulous tree (above) with all her favourite bits and pieces from Wilko. She chose chalkboard wrapping paper for the parcels under the tree which complements the rustic nature of this look perfectly. With copper tones and wooden features this has a real homespun feel about it and creates a truly cosy look for Christmas. Her favourite piece is the Merry Christmas stag plaque (£5).

Jay chose this stunning frosty look from George at Asda (below) and it looked absolutely wonderful. “When I saw all the items, I instantly loved every single thing, especially the glitzy stag head,” shares Jay. “I adore the finished look – it makes me think of a snowy Christmas morning!” We love the penguin cushion (£7), which adds fun and character to the overall scheme.

Winter Wonder & Shiny BrightsShelley went for a novelty set of baubles for this tree (above) using decorations from HomeSense. With a mix of eclectic and one-off centrepieces she has created a truly unique scheme. The felt garlands are her particular favourites, which look brill draped around door and window frames. And Editor Lizzie loved the pancake bauble (£3.99) so much it took pride of place on the mantelpiece!

4Rachel has created a really glamorous look (above) with this stunning range from Marks & Spencer. “I loved turning a plain tree into a festive delight,” says Rachel. “I picked up loads of styling tips and ideas along the way, too. My Christmas list has certainly grown!” All the glass baubles are absolutely exquisite – Rachel’s favourite is the sequinned onion-shaped bauble (£6) in gorgeous deep blue.

This cosy woodland delight (below) was styled by Sabrina who chose a mix of checks in traditional colours for a truly festive feel. All the items are from Dunelm and work together perfectly. The plush long-legged robin (£6.99) brings a fun touch that all the family will love. “I was so pleased with my finished tree,” says Sabrina. “The squirrels, robins and reindeer are all so very cute!”

5&6Carrie added a touch of glamour to this tree using beautiful gold decorations from Argos (above). Combining shiny metallic baubles with sparkling glittery snowflakes this is a simple but truly effective look. The candlestick holders (£19.99, set of two) bring an element of class to the scheme and look brilliant at a fireplace. Choose matching wrapping paper to bring the finished look together.

3Samantha has gone for a softly sparkling scheme (above) with this blush pink and glittery gold mix of decorations from Tesco. Dressing the tree in beautiful baubles that sparkle and combining with complementary wrapping paper and greeting cards the look is wonderfully opulent. The ‘Believe’ sign (£4) on the mantelpiece is the perfect finishing touch and can be used all year-round, too.

    Smart security

    by  • November 9, 2015 • Craft • 0 Comments

With the invention of smart phones our lives have been made a lot easier, whether it’s being able to switch your heating on while travelling home or recording your favourite TV show when you’re on the move. Now you can add to that list home security. Myfox has launched two handy security products, which aim to keep your home safe.

The Myfox Home Alarm has individual sensors which attach to doors and windows around the home. Each sensor cleverly detects the difference between normal and everyday occurances around the home and actual security threats. A handy key fob means you can easily switch off the alarm, while there is also automatic user recognition and a panic button in case of emergency. Used in conjunction with the Myfox Security app, you will be sent a notification should the alarm be set off.

If you want to take your security further you can choose the Myfox Security Camera, which has a remotely controllable privacy shutter. When used in conjuntion with the alarm system you can check on your home remotely.

    Myfox Home Alarm, £249, Myfox

    Myfox Security Camera, £169, Myfox
